On Tuesday 11th November the Grange St Paul's Sky Bar was awash with colour as The Independent on Sunday celebrated their Rainbow List 2014: the annual celebration of the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender people who make a real difference. Now in its 15th year, the list - previously known as the Pink List - celebrates the achievements of those in the LGBT community who inspire, inform and entertain. London LIVE were reporting on the night and interviewed the national treasures that are Christopher Biggins and Gok Wan. Guests included author Stella Duffy, actress Heather Peace and Asifa Lahore, the UK's first UK Muslim drag queen.
Sponsored by Asda and hosted by Grange Hotels, over 150 people drank Asahi beer, who had kindly donated a generous supply of bottles, and relished the canapés in the lofty shadow of St Paul's Cathedral.
Managing Director, Tony Matharu, gave a heartfelt and warming welcoming speech to the colourful throng concluding that minority and diversity groups no longer had to stay in the dark and championed the Independent on Sunday for its continual campaign for equality whilst rewarding those who really deserve it.
“The Independent on Sunday has been publishing its celebration of the most influential LGBT people in Britain for 15 years now, but this year was the first time we held an actual celebration. I couldn’t have wished for a better venue for the Rainbow List party than the Grange Hotel at St Pauls. From the seven-storey multi-coloured lightshow to the dazzling metropolitan views to the chic canapés, it was fun, stylish and welcoming. Everyone attending - from the powerhouses on the list to the VIP guests and corporate supporters – commented on how much they enjoyed the night. It’s fair to say that social media was rainbow-striped that night! I look forward to The Independent on Sunday and Grange Hotels collaborating on more events in the future.” Lisa Markwell, editor of The Independent on Sunday.
