As a socially responsible supporter of sport, culture and the arts, and being actively involved in the third sector, Grange Hotels is honoured to organise numerous industry events throughout the year in order to raise funds for charitable organisations including Grange Hotels’ long-term partner charity; Indian Ocean Disaster Relief (IODR). Events such as these are vital in helping to create awareness for charities, including IODR, which was founded following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami by Grange Hotels Managing Director, Tony Matharu, helping to rebuild the lives of those affected by natural and other disasters, especially vulnerable children.
Grange Hotels was delighted to combine the company’s passion for sport with worthy causes this June by hosting a Ravi Bopara/Kevin Pietersen event at the 5-Star Grange St. Paul’s Hotel. Held in the spectacular Wren suite, guests were treated to a sumptuous banquet before an entertaining Q&A session with Ravi Bopara (Essex and England), Kevin Pietersen (Surrey and England) and Mahela Jayawardene (Sussex and Sri Lanka).
The dinner supported several charities including IODR and Lord’s Taverners, for whom Tony Matharu is London Chairman. Grange Hotels has supported Lord’s Taverners and is a long-term charity partner with them. Click here to view footage from the Lord’s Taverners Test Captain’s Dinner 2013.
Over the years, Grange Hotels has been fortunate to welcome many well-known faces through its doors, all of whom are generous in giving up their valuable time to support the charity. From cricketing legends such as Sir Garry Sobers and Andrew Strauss, to stars of stage and screen such as Gillian Anderson, Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, Grange Hotels reiterates its thanks to those who have supported IODR over the years. Tony Matharu comments: “I cannot emphasise enough the value of icons of sport and entertainment who support charitable organisations like ours. On behalf of IODR, I thank you all.”
An event which was particularly relevant for Grange Hotels and IODR given its poignant subject, was the 2012 Charity Film Premiere of The Impossible; a film which tells the real life story of a family’s struggle to survive in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami, the very disaster which led to IODR’s inception. With IODR as the official UK Charity Partner, Grange Hotels had the pleasure of welcoming film stars Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts to Grange Holborn Hotel, with all proceeds from this event donated for use in IODR’s rehabilitation projects for those affected by the disaster. It is star-studded, high profile events such as this which creates and sustains awareness and raises the profile of charities like IODR.

With an array of events taking place throughout the year, there is always an opportunity to demonstrate your support. Recently, Grange Hotels and IODR were proud to host the Nepal Charity Gala with longstanding partner, the London Indian Film Festival. Every penny of the event was ring-fenced for Nepal following the devastating earthquake in April 2015. Tony Matharu is the Founding Patron of the London Indian Film Festival, and in 2014 Grange Hotels welcomed stars Gillian Anderson, Neerja Naik and many more for the European Premiere of their film SOLD, executive produced by Emma Thompson.
The 2015 event featured an exclusive screening of Bollywood classic, Bombay, with the film’s lead actress, Manisha Koirala, coming to London specially to lend her support. The screening was accompanied by a Champagne reception and delectable 3-course banquet and fundraiser.
