Grange Hotels is pleased to announce that experienced mountaineer, Bob Bhania, has become the first Brit to reach the Summit of Mount Everest since the devastating earthquake hit last April; climbing in aid of our long-term partner charity, Indian Ocean Disaster Relief (IODR).
Initially delayed by a landslide the day before he was set to embark, Bob reached Everest’s Summit at 7am on Friday 20th May along the Northeast Ridge – first attempted in 1924 – and is set to finish his descent in June.
You can see the full route Bob took to reach the Summit here:
Grange Hotels is proud that Bob has chosen IODR as his beneficiary charity for this remarkable undertaking. Formed in the aftermath of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, IODR’s aim is to measurably improve the well-being of children following natural and other disasters, and every penny donated will go towards IODR’s intervention projects in Nepal.
The earthquake had a devastating impact throughout Nepal, with infrastructure and ‘everyday life’ left unrecognisable. In keeping with IODR’s promise of helping vulnerable children following disasters to lead fulfilling lives, IODR is committed to a reconstruction project, south of Kathmandu in the Lalitpur region.
Grange Hotels would be delighted for you to support, donate and follow Bob’s journey on Twitter to motivate him as he begins his steep descent from the Summit.
You can keep up to date with Bob’s progress, as well as finding out more about all of IODR’s work in Nepal on the IODR website HERE and on Twitter @IODR_UK.
