And Off To… Cricket for Heroes, Charity Fundraiser at The Kia Oval

22 September 2015

Grange Hotels, who has a long history of supporting the third sector through sport, culture and local community projects, as well as through partner charity Indian Ocean Disaster Relief (IODR), was honoured to be associated, once again with Help for Heroes and to be Official Hotel Sponsor, at the Cricket for Heroes charity fundraiser.

Thursday 17th September 2015 saw some of the biggest names in cricket past and present - MS Dhoni, Brian Lara and Brendon McCullum - join forces with other world-class stars at The Kia Oval for the international Help for Heroes fundraiser; Cricket for Heroes. Thankfully, the weather held up for the hotly-anticipated end of season finale, which saw global cricket icons, as well as three British service men, compete in a Twenty20 match at the renowned London cricket grounds.

The charity fundraiser, which is in its first year, aims to raise money for Help for Heroes, as well as raise awareness of the extensive work that they do to support sick, wounded or seriously injured soldiers and their families.

The all-star match proved to be a massive success with almost sell-out crowds. The Help for Heroes team, managed by cricket legends David Gower & Michael Holding, included many household names, such as Herschelle Gibbs; Virender Sehwag & MS Dhoni, one of the most popular Indian cricketers of all time, led by England director of cricket Andrew Strauss. The opposing Rest of the World team captained by New Zealand's Brendon McCullum, included Gary Kirsten - one of South Africa’s greatest ever batsmen - with Sunil ‘Sunny’ Gavaskar & Gary Kirsten managing the team.
