Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

Built in 1599, the original Globe Theatre was destroyed by fire in 1613, quickly rebuilt in 1614, and demolished in 1644 under Cromwell’s Puritan administration. It was only in 1997 that a new Globe Theatre opened and was given the name 'Shakespeare's Globe’. With one of the most enduring legacies of any Playhouse in the world, the Globe is where Shakespeare performed most of his greatest plays. The magnificent 3000 capacity house was built from oak across 3 storeys and has become the most authentic setting in which to appreciate Shakespeare’s genius.
