Opened in 1897 the Tate Britain Gallery is situated by the River Thames on Millbank being one of the premier tourist attractions for the visitors all over the world. The Gallery continuelly expanded through the years until in 1979 when it took over the military hospital across the street. The Building kept growing and expanding until other two Tate Galleries were created Tate Liverpool in 1988 and Tate St Ives in 1993. It was then decided to create a new gallery in London as a component of the Tate Collection. This became Tate Modern, which opened in the year 2000.
