Founded in 1673, as the Apothecaries Garden, The Chelsea Physic Garden's aim is training apprentices in recognising the plants. Located close to the river the Garden was alowed a warmer climate as many non-native plants - such as the largest outdoor fruiting olive tree in Britain couldn't survive harsh winters. Later on the specialist arranged special facilities for different types of plants that includes fused bricks, flint and the pond rock garden, fabricated from a variety of rock types, usually stones from the Tower of London and Icelandic lava. Completed on 16th August 1773, the oldest rock garden in England is availible on view for all the visitors developing a major London attraction.
