Where are the best places for Christmas shopping in London?

Whether you want somewhere to shop for luxury gifts, Christmas party outfits from the high street, or you just fancy getting a few pretty bits and bobs at a Christmas market, London has everything you need this Christmas. The best part about Christmas shopping in the capital is that everything is so close together. And if it isn't, London's underground will get you there in no time. So to offer a few ideas on where you should start, we've put together this list of the best places to go shopping in London for Christmas 2019.

1. Oxford Street

Oxford Street is the place to be if you need anything from stocking fillers to wow-factor gifts. One of Europe's busiest streets, seeing over half a million visitors every day, Oxford Street is mainly made up of high street stores, but it also hosts more luxurious brands inside department stores such as Selfridges. It's also only an 8-minute walk from our Grange Langham Court Hotel.

It's the home of various flagship stores such as Topshop, Gap, River Island, and Marks and Spencer; these stores are so big you could get lost inside them! This year, Oxford Street's John Lewis is also offering a winter-themed rooftop bar; the perfect pit stop during a long day of Christmas shopping. If you want to visit somewhere with a lot of choice and you are feeling indecisive, Oxford Street is the place for you.

Get your walking shoes on though; Oxford Street is over a mile long and that's not including all those stores you'll be walking around. But look on the bright side; at last you can skip your trip to the gym that day.

2. Knightsbridge

The home of some of the most exclusive designer brands in the world, Knightsbridge is famous for being the home of luxury department stores Harrods and Harvey Nichols. These well-loved shops have become a British institution, attracting visitors from all over the world every day.

Transforming into magical wonderlands during the festive period, there's nothing you can't find inside these department stores. From Santa's Grottos to Champagne bars, you won't get bored and neither will your children. There's also a string of other designer stores in and around Knightsbridge, everything from Mulberry to Moncler.

So, if you're not on a budget this year, make sure you head to Knightsbridge in December and stay with us at Grange Strathmore Hotel, a short 10 minute drive away from this luxury shopping destination.

3. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is a magical tourist hotspot that thousands of people travel to from all over the country – and even further afield - every year. Winter Wonderland includes rides, places to eat and drink, spectacular shows, ice-skating, amusement games, and not forgetting... shopping opportunities! Winter Wonderland holds a traditional, European-style Christmas market every year, complete with a beerhaus and plenty of bratwurst.

Open from 10am-10pm everyday from 22nd November 2019 to 5th January 2020, you can find yourself hand-knitted goods, homeware, jewellery, sweet treats, clothing and many more Christmassy delights.

If you fancy a weekend trip, our Grange Strathmore Hotel could be the perfect place to stay; it's just a short 5 minute walk away from Hyde Park.

4. Westfield Stratford City

With over 250 shops, Westfield Stratford City has been named the biggest urban shopping and leisure destination in the whole of the Europe. In addition to the wide variety of shops, there are also 65 restaurants to choose from. With a huge World Food Court, and favourite restaurants from Nandos to Gourmet Burger Kitchen, you're likely to find something for everyone.

Westfield Stratford City is hosting lots of festivities during this Christmas season, such as a Santa's Snowflake Grotto to keep the children occupied, and a Christmas market. Both are running from 21st November to 24th December. As well as these events there will be late night shopping days, Christmas events run by the retailers, and a special Black Friday to Cyber Monday long shopping weekend (29th November to 2nd December).

5. Piccadilly Circus

By venturing away from the main square in Piccadilly Circus, you'll find a gorgeous array of shops that suit a variety of tastes and budgets located along the many side streets. First founded in 1707, the prestigious Fortnum and Mason department store is still located at the spot of its original headquarters; 181 Piccadilly. Fortnum and Mason is especially atmospheric at Christmas, when its ornate spiral staircase and grand entrance hall, along with the rest of its interiors, are adorned in elegant Christmas decorations.

As well as this department store, Piccadilly is home to Europe's largest bookshop – an eight-floor Waterstones. This makes Christmas shopping for bookworms easy, and also offers a chance to rest weary feet during a day of shopping, thanks to the generously sized café inside. Other shops in the area include high street favourites such as Paperchase, Cath Kidston, and Boots.

6. Camden Market

Known for being the home of quirky goods, Camden Market is a great spot for Christmas shopping for those difficult people who already seem to have everything. Find unusual gifts such as handcrafted jewellery, striking artwork, or personalised caricatures from the charismatic resident artist (he'll work from photos!)

This Christmas, the folks at Camden Market are putting on some extra special festivities for visitors. From the first ice rink and Santa's Gingerbread Grotto, to festive street food specials and Christmas parties, there are plenty of ways to get into the spirit of things. Enjoy Camden's night life after a day of shopping, and stay at our Grange Fitzrovia Hotel, which is a 20 minute journey away on foot and tube.
