We find that our passion for sport provides a wonderful chance for community engagement; especially the power that sports can have in empowering the more vulnerable and young members of our communities through creating opportunities and positive results for them through our shared love of sports.
An example that we were appreciative to be able to help with was the recent development through our charity IODR of a cricket ground in the devastated north of Sri Lanka which has enabled the young people of the area, through the playing of and competing in sports, to find new drive and a reason to rebuild their lives and their community which until has been severely damaged through a recently ended civil war.
At home we have proudly supported various other sporting bodies with a primary emphasis on helping young people get into sports.
- England Hockey Board
- Pro FC
- Surrey County Cricket Club
- Sri Lankan Cricket Team
And many others.
Indian Ocean Disaster Relief is a UK based charity which exists to provide funding for its charitable initiatives in the Indian Ocean region. The charity was originally established in response to the Tsunami in December 2004, when it provided emergency relief to the millions of people left devastated by the disaster, and again raised funds for relief in aid of the Asia earthquake in 2005.
Since then, IODR has expanded its work in the region to build long term managed projects for the most needy and vulnerable children, including schools and community, welfare and education centres.
We believe that every child deserves to fulfil their ambitions and desires. IODR is helping them along the process. We observe the following values in everything we do:
1. Integrity and Honesty
2. Transparency and Accountability
3. Community Capacity with Best Practice
4. Equality and Respect
5. Universal Humanity
6. Environmental Consideration
7. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
8. Responsible Development
Our main aims are to support children and communities by providing education and basic medical care. We have built the Weligama Community, Welfare and Education Centre solely for this purpose and will continue to build, not only by erecting, maintaining and running such centres but helping our children to build sustainable lives for themselves and their families. Our volunteers help us to inspire the children we work with and make them want to improve their lives and their future.
Being socially responsible is also about giving back to the community when we can. Grange Hotels works with many other charities on a pro bono basis giving them all the help that our business experience can give them. We do everything that we can to furnish them with what they need.
Our charity efforts mainly focus on sports and children’s charities such as:
- Cancer Research UK
- Oracle Cancer Trust
- Lord’s Taverners
- Children’s Trust Tadworth
- Funny Women
- Lord Mayor’s Appeal
- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
- Peace One Day
