This year is the festival’s 20th anniversary and Grange Hotels have been supporting LIFT since 2010. LIFT’s work brings international work, often from areas of the world where ground-breaking ideas are forming, to spaces all over London, making theatre accessible and even more relevant. Grange Hotels support LIFT’s ambitious programming ethos – bringing mostly political work which engages with the big ideas of our time: freedom, justice and environmental and technological change.
From hosting the opening of the festival in 2012 to providing discounted accommodation for visiting theatre companies, we assist with keeping theatre affordable to the culturally curious in London whilst appealing to the its diversity. This year we are hosting a Corporate Cultivation event where LIFT will be able to present to future stakeholders the programme for forthcoming years. And we are delighted to have the artists and first audiences of ‘Opus No 7’ under our roof to celebrate the first show.
Opus No.7 places its audience on the stage, tantalisingly close to the action of a genre-defying double bill. The oppression of Soviet Jews and the censorship of Shostakovich under Stalin are depicted through larger-than-life puppets, duelling pianos, living walls and blizzards of newsprint; epic images conjured up from the simplest of materials. This is mouth-watering theatre on a grand scale.
"LIFT continues to thrill and excite audiences, adding innovation and vibrancy to the London Arts scene and its unrivalled theatre offering. Grange Hotels are delighted to continue to support LIFT's inspirational festival, adding outstanding talent to the rich tapestry of London's life - entertaining and provoking like no other theatre festival". Tony Matharu, Managing Director, Grange Hotels
