Corporate Social Responsibility
1.0. Context
1.1.
Grange Hotels recognises the importance of its role in managing social, economic and environmental issues. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the principal way Grange Hotels seeks to co-ordinate and manage practices to maximise positive social and economic contribution and minimise the environmental impacts of its business.
Central to our approach to CSR is engagement with key clients, employees, community, environmental stakeholders, regulators, business partners, suppliers, and shareholders.
1.2.
Grange Hotels’ CSR policy can be divided into four principal segments:
Marketplace:
How we work with our customers and suppliers
Workplace (Diversity and Equal Opportunities):
Where we work, how we recruit and how we work with our staff, partners and suppliers
Environment:
How we reduce our environmental impact
Community Investment:
How we engage with the community
1.3.
The policy is related to and builds upon the values and standards of ethical behaviour set out in Grange Hotels’ Code of Business Conduct.
2.0 Objectives
The objectives of this Policy Statement are to:

Clarify roles and responsibilities in respect of CSR
2.2.
Outline the commitment and requirements for the CSR segments of:
Marketplace, Workplace, Environment and Community Investment.
3.0 Scope
3.1.
This Policy applies to all divisions (including their business units and service lines) in Grange Hotels.
4.0 Policy Requirements
4.1. Roles & responsibilities
4.1.1. Ownership of CSR:
The UK Executive Committee is accountable for CSR in the UK. The co-ordination of CSR initiatives and activities will be owned on the Committee’s behalf by the nominated Committee member who will report regularly on CSR status, progress and issues to the Committee.
4.1.2. Executive Management:
Responsible for ensuring that key strategic and operational decisions in their area take into account CSR considerations, supporting CSR initiatives and practices through role-modelling and the allocation of sufficient resources, raising the profile of CSR and overseeing that their area complies with this policy.
4.1.3. Staff:
Responsible for behaving in a corporately responsible way, adhering to this policy and enabling Grange Hotels to make a positive social, economic and environmental contribution.
4.2. Marketplace
Grange Hotels will:
4.2.1.
Operate in accordance with the values and standards of behaviour set out in its Code of Business Conduct and all applicable laws and regulatory requirements, and provide a mechanism and process whereby illegal and/or unethical behaviour can be reported and addressed.
4.2.2.
Provide products and services to meet the needs of its clients, while having consideration for the impact on the natural environment and communities where Grange Hotels operates.
4.2.3.
Provide high standards of service to clients, and have complaints procedures for clients to ensure their concerns are efficiently addressed on those occasions where there is a problem.
4.2.4.
Take a partnership approach to supply chain relations, as outlined in our Supplier of Code of Conduct, ensuring that payments are made promptly, supplier complaints are reviewed, and that we use fair and transparent procurement methods.
4.2.5.
Use its position in the marketplace to raise awareness of CSR with clients and the market, and help facilitate change to minimise impact on the natural environment and communities where we operate.
4.3. Workplace (Diversity and Equal Opportunities)
Grange Hotels are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity and fairness in all areas of employment and to valuing the diversity of our colleagues, clients, suppliers and people living within our local communities.
Grange Hotels will:
4.3.1.
Recruit, promote and retain at all levels within our business talented individuals, embracing the benefits this will bring from a wide mix of backgrounds.
4.3.2.
Provide a workplace in which diversity is valued and there are equal opportunities. Grange Hotels will similarly provide a mechanism/s by which employees can raise their views and be engaged in change and issues that affect the company.
4.3.3.
Provide a safe and secure workplace which is conducive to the health and welfare of employees.
4.3.4.
Support employees with training and opportunities for promotion to help them reach their potential and maximise their contribution to wider company strategy.
4.3.4.
Recognise and reward individuals on the basis of their own performance and that of the company; and appraise performance on both the results that were achieved and how they were achieved.
4.3.5.
Demonstrate excellence in leading, managing and working with diversity both internally and externally
4.3.6.
Purchase goods, services and facilities that reflects our commitment to equality and diversity; putting in place procedures to ensure that suppliers from diverse communities have appropriate opportunities in competing for contracts. Further, Grange Hotels will take action to encourage such businesses through our supply chains, to comply with their anti discrimination responsibilities and best practice on diversity issues.
4.4. Environment
Grange Hotels believe that all businesses are responsible for achieving good environmental practice and operating in a sustainable manner. We are therefore committed to reducing our environmental impact and to continually improve our environmental performance as an integral and fundamental part of our work.
Grange Hotels will actively strive to:
4.4.1.
Minimise its energy, water and paper usage, through design, infrastructure and behaviour.
4.4.2.
Optimise waste reduction through re-use and recycling; by purchasing recycled, recyclable or re-furbished products and materials, and by limiting the use of hazardous material where these alternatives are available, economical and suitable.
4.4.3.
Incorporate environmental considerations into procurement decisions (including refurbishments/new building projects), and raise environmental awareness/influence across all tiers of the organisation to facilitate a reduction in the company’s collective environment impact.
4.4.4.
Purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment, communicate our environmental commitment to partners and to the public and encourage them to do the same.
4.4.5.
Encourage all staff and event attenders to use environmentally sensitive transport methods wherever possible.
4.4.6.
Improve environmental performance and minimise the social impact and damage of company activities by periodically reviewing its environmental policy in light of our current and planned future activities.
4.5. Community
Grange Hotels believes that community involvement is a vital part of responsible commercial activity, and is committed to regular, sustained corporate community involvement as a means to assist and address key business objectives and community needs for mutual benefit.
Grange Hotels will endeavour to:
4.5.1.
Provide benefit to the community though the provision of resources-in-kind to local community groups and charity partners, including (but not limited to) events space and related facilities, hotel accommodation, charity raffle items, and marketing, sales, events and reprographics support.
4.5.2.
Provide benefit to the community through the investment of our money and time in the community, and through mutually beneficial partnerships, contra-deals and sponsorship agreements with key local stakeholders and charity partners.
4.5.3.
Provide and support UK and international volunteering opportunities for sponsored charities (including, but not limited to IODR, The Lord’s Taverners and Oracle Cancer Trust), in addition to supporting corporate fundraising campaigns by other charity partners and clients.
5.0 Definitions
The following summarises key terms used in this Policy Statement:
Code of Business Conduct
- Sets out the standards of ethical behaviour required of all employees and officers, as well as all [Company Name] directors and agents whenever they are acting on behalf of the company.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
- The overall approach Grange Hotels takes to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.
